Today I purchased a 3 year old Japanese Black Pine here in Brisbane. I have never owned a black pine and looking for some advice please.

Where do I start with the de-needling and wiring.
All that I have read are reference to 10 year old plus Japanese black pines.

It is a fairly decent size at a 3 ft tall in a 4mm pot. I have it home and repotted in a bonsai pot and am at a lost where to start.
The sapling has the main trunk and predominantly four branches with healthy looking needling. Great colour and healthy root system which I gave a very minor trim before I repotted.

So if anyone could help or render advice, one very happy member to take on board contructive criticism.

Can you post a picture? As it is your summer you should not have re potted but too late now. What size pot is it in? It is not 4mm that's for sure.

That is a young plant. If it was mine I would plant it in the ground for alt least 3 to 5 years, you can work on it whilst it is there, but it needs to grow and get a trunk. I am not sure of the age but it looks younger that 5 years to me. There is not much you can do to it at the moment, other than water and fertiliser. If there is a local bonsai club or nursery you will be able to get better advice for you conditions as it is your summer right now, so I don't know what your weather conditions are like.

i could be wrong, but if you're re-potting, i think that there is a kind of fungus that helps the tree to survive.

the micorizzal fungus is already present in the soil there will be a grey material around the roots, just take some of it and put into the pot. But as I said before the best place is in the ground

It is in a bigger pot and left to grow for awhile. I am just fertilising with seasol sea weed on the growth months and rest it in the winter months. Just reorganising my shelf system for the bonsai's to give it more sun, the needles appear to be bigger and getting more sparse, than I expected but have put this down to the growth season, I could be wrong. As all bonsian's I would hate to do wrong by the georgeous baby. Thank you all and look forward to further information, if anyone has any.
