Hello, I have just completed my first attempt at pruning and wiring a Japanese black pine that I had purchased as nursery stock. When I purchased the plant it was quite overgrown and didn't have a lot of styling so I decided to go with a fairly intense pruning to get it back into shape. I have it sitting in shade for the rest of the day after pruning but I would like to know for future reference if I took to much off or if it seems alright, note that some of the older needles were about 3x as long as the younger ones so I trimmed them back to give a sense of balance. I'll include a before and after picture as attachments. Thank you!

Hmm. Are you in the southern hemisphere and aproaching spring now?

The pictures suggests that it is end of summer or early authum which is totally wrong time of the year to prune JBP.

Hi there, yes you would be right as it is just the beginning of fall here really about a week ago temperature wise, I had read some article of people near me doing this in the fall so I thought I would give this a shot. Seems like I'll need to just keep a close eye on it as we move through the fall and then not make the same mistake next year, we should still be a couple months out from winter so hopefully it'll pull through.
