Flame Tree Qs was created by PC404

Hi!
I have two Flame Trees that germinated about February of this year and are growing really strongly. I know that they grow relatively quickly and are pretty hardy, but how long should I wait until pruning?
The bigger one is getting TALL... Around a foot or more. How should I cut it back?
Thanks a bunch!

Your question is impossible to answer, we do not have enough information and opinions varies a lot.

Wile the tree can take quite hard pruning that sets back growth speed. For young seedlings it is growth you want. I tend to make a long term plan first and after that take the necessary steps in proper time to achieve the vision. For an informal upright with cut and grow method I grow the trunk until it is approx 50 % of the envisioned final product. Then cut back hard to a new leader. Repeat for section two, wait and cut back. For a small tree it is normally 3 sections. On bigger trees it may be 10 or more. But for them it is really hard to follow a plan.

Everything you do should be part of a plan. Everything. The plan should involve what the tree can do, what you want, and restraints on what can happen. If you are 20 years old you probably have 50 or more years for a plan to work. I am 77 and probably should have a shorter plan.

You should wait to cut back until you have a plan, and until some branch or twig falls outside the plan.?

In most cases you want the trunk to be pretty thick. Seven months probably won't make them very thick.

To be honest, long story short...?You shouldn't waste your time on that species in a temperate climate, there are a lot of suitable species to choose between...

That's my teacher's Flame Tree, it took him over 20 years to build it on a suitable climate, you can see it's really big due to the leaves size, this species has leaves that can reach like 50cm long...

His wasn't field grown, but in a huge pot.

So if this took him over 20 years to make, in a not proper climate, it would be like what, 40 yrs?
And the thing is, you can't make them small...
