So, I have the plant and it definitely needs repotting roots hanging over the side and pot not big enough. So, I got it out of the pot and cleaned it off and trimmed the roots. There is a big thick main root that angles out and takes up space. Is there a way to trim it back and what would I use-nothing I have in my bonsai tool set will do it. Does look like it needs to be trimmed back. But, that will have to be when the next time it is repotted in the future as I repotted in a bit larger pot. The next pot will have to be not larger in width but, larger in depth.

The thick root can be removed using secateurs or branch saw. Spring, just before the tree is moved outdoors is the right time for repotting and heavy root work.

Do you put the wound sealer on it afterwards?

I always use wound sealer. It will prevent bacteria to enter the wound and will help to heal.

I don't use sealer for roots. And I allways honour the right time of the year for root work. It is stressful enough for the tree anyway.
