Hello all,
I am fairly new to bonsai, I collected this Juniper about 3 years ago and have not repotted it.
Due to the natural shape of the tree and lack of prominent apex I am struggling to determine the initial shape and style I should take this in.
Any advice or ideas on what to do in this situation is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Pat

Thank you, yes I agree and thought the same thing until I wondered how to bend such a set trunk.

It is obviously hard to make statements based on a two dimensional photo. However, to me it looks like no bending of old wood is necessary. Just work on planting angle and bending of younger branches.
If it does not work for you, trunk splitting is the technique used to bend old wood. Or you may want to consider raft style instead.

Hey there,
So I finished my initial styling of the common juniper. I managed to bend the main trunk in the end so went with a cascade style.
Still a lot of neatening up and ramification needed over time. I hope she makes it given the drastic changes ??
Thanks for the help this far and any thoughts are appreciated.
