Hi there,
Total beginner here. In January i purchased two Acer (Orange Dream) saplings and bound them together (no real growth at the time).
Now the plant looks as in the images, but im just looking for any tips on pruning to guide it into being more bonsai-esque (and any general tips).
Thanks,
Tristan

Did you bought it in leaf? Was it kept outdoors or indoors. Maples is decidious trees and should not be kept indoors. Bring it outdoors as soon as risk of frost is over in your area and leave it there, never taking it inside ever again.
Maples bleeds a lot when pruned in spring. So leave it for now to recover from recent work and abuse in wrong conditions. If the tree is still healthy next summer you can start to think about next step. If it was my tree I would consider uppotting into a much bigger pot or even plant it in the ground as next step. This tree needs to thicken the trunk a lot before I think its ready for pot and refinement.

There were no leaves when i bought it, and it was kept outdoors. The plan was alway to move it outdoors. I live in Scotland, so frost can occur all through the winter and later (we have had snow in March/April before).
Thanks for the advice, it will move it out when the weather allows.

The misstake made here was to move it indoors and bringing the tree out of dormancy too early. The plant can tollerate frost very well when dormant and in scotland is no problem to have it outside all year. I live in sweden and have maples outdoors all year.
Now, just hope that it didnt stress the tree too much.

it should be placed in a cold greenhouse or a well-lit room in the direction of heating, not sure that it will last until May
