It's early spring in California and I successfully repotted two plants recently. I pruned a tree yesterday and I'm not sure if it's ok to repot it this week. Any suggestions?

Pruning and repotting is something I never do the same year.

What species are we talking about?

That is the key question.

in general trees can handle this just fine. Exceptions are pines, and possibly some other conifers.

It’s a juniperus communis.

for hardwoods we prune and we ligature and then we repot, for pines, it's one job per year, for junipers, we can prune and ligature, and repot the following year

I would not be concerned about repotting this tree, if you know how to transfer from this muck into substrate.

Pruning and wiring, as topic sais, Yes.

Pruning and repotting is something I never do the same year.

I always prune a bit when I repot it, specially when is not just a slide to a bigger pot, If the roots are reduced, I'll reduce a bit the foliage, so it won't dehydrate.
But yes, I think that if you just remove most of the leaves, it would have the same effect.

Pruning and Wiring can definitely go together, yes.
Just not in some cases, for example if I still want a branch to get thicker, I would wire it's base and keep the long tip, of course keeping an eye on it so wires won't bite.
Once it aproaches to the desired thickness, I would prune it back to work on it's ramifications.

PS.: My trees are mostly Tropicals... =P
