I'm working my way through the fundamentals course, and came across the technique of cutting leaves in half. Is this an appropriate technique to use on ficus, in order to distribute energy? Some of the leaves on mine are getting a little on the large size.

Thanks.

This sort of techniques are for trees that are fairly far developed. Is this the cae on yours?

I find that ficus respons well on trimming the top strong and letting the lower branches grow.

I wouldn't say it's far developed. I've had it 4-5 years now. Not sure how old it was when I bought it. I'll post a pic of my tree (promise not to laugh though).

P.s - the photo was from a few weeks ago, it's filled out much more since then.

Looks like a decent ficus.

I think a full defoliation, wiring & trim might help it to ramnify well. Seems healthy enough, assuming there is enough growing season left.

Thanks for the advice. What you suggest seems like the logical next steps. Apart from one repot, root prune, and occasional maintenance pruning, I've just let it grow. It had a scale issue recently which I'm finally on top of. I'm learning to be more patient these days as well. :-)
