So I was given this itoigawa juniper from a pre bonsai supplier. He had forgotten that he placed them somewhere and they were neglected. I got 3 of them back in January but only 2 are alive today. This one that I am going to document the progression on is very week right now. I got them from him 3 months ago and this one lost a lower branch and turned a yellow green. It now has new growth and is no longer yellow green.
Today I went ahead and put him in a good area of my yard. I will post again on its progress maybe in July.
If you want to see the other let me know.

This one isn't as bad, but it's not great.
Here is a close up of how itoigawa respond to stress
It produces juvenile foliage until it gets healthier. This is a reaction that helps keep predators from eating any foliage while the juniper recovers. Pretty cool but annoying right now.

The needle-type foliage is called stress-foliage, that the tree develops when it is... under stress.
Another term is juvenile foliage, which you would see on very young trees. The scale type foliage develops later.

Is it me or is it Wierd you wired the tree yet not really put any movement in it at all.
The movement you have put in it seems almost pointless i dont understand.
Whilst its young i would take that wire off the tree put raffia on the trunk and then wire over that and bend the hell out of it put some proper twists in the trunk dont be afraid to do so either. Then when it grows over 10 years the trunk will have some proper movement in it. then you can put some interesting shari and dead wood on it.
Take advantage now.
Like this if you fancy a read.

I wired it to open it up to allow sun and air in. I am not worried about movement as I am about health right now.
