I have heard these are not the best for bonsai, however, I had a hard time passing it up for $10 US. It appears to me to be 7-10 years old. I know it needs to be trunk chopped. My question is when and where? I would appreciate any and all constructive criticism. Thanks in advance.

You'll have a hard time shortening those needles  if this was my tree i would cut right at the base of the first section of bare trunk and then let it grow for a season or maybe two. but i'm def not an expert, just saying my opinion
