A nursery plant I got yesterday that I thought may have some potential. I cleaned him up and kind of pruned him into shape...wiring and training next year. Front and top view...bought him for $12 US

I still don't have the eye for what is good material , but I like your tree. I like the branches and the roots I see. Purely an uneducated opinion, but I like it.
I hope some others comment. I'd love to hear as more educated critic.

Thanks Ruth I appreciate that. I am very much a novice as well. I look for the cheapest tree with the biggest trunk Then I like to take it home and clean it up to see what I have....it is kind of like a mystery gift...they all have different character that is for sure. It may never make it as a bonsai but it will look great in my yard.

I only have P. Afra that even look like trees, the rest are small. They may not be big and magnificent but seeing them grow brings me such joy. I'm in Michigan on the west coast. Our nights are in the 50s now. Most of mine are tropicals, the others are in the ground and will do fine with the colder weather, but I hated to take them in. They were all doing so well outside but if the temps drop too low unexpectedly I don't want them hurt. On this tree you just purchased, can it be kept outside?

Yes they are outside plants. I live in Arizona...today's temp was 91 so mine will stay outside...we normally only have about a weeks worth of damaging frost every winter. I know how you feel about the plants mine are nothing special but I do like to see them grow.
