hello, if my question already exists i am thankful to hear about the topic. otherwise i hope you experts can help me here. i have a japanese elm and my goal is to reach the style of the j-elm showed in the tree species. what keeps me away from that is time an knowledge. my question is: how can i establish such a ramification. the tree has little shoots, i can't even wire them and the rest of it growths all over the place. as you can see, some older branches grew up and i cut them all except for the one branch so i can show you. thanks in advance for your answer

Don't forget patience.
Let it grow a year, or two, and study, maybe get a couple common elms (the kind that grow all around you) to experiment on. These things do take time, but elms are pretty fast, compared to some trees.

Compared to some, it is a reasonable tree. Chinese Elms are very hardy, and will take a lot of abuse, which is a good thing in one way. Let it grow and when you prune clip and grow is by far the bast way, wire is not a good idea if it is not needed don't do it.
