I got that urge again and this time it was for another Juniper. The images are of the the nursery stock with mild cleaning up. It is a juniperus chinensis procumbens 'Nana" in a 3gal/10.2Liter pot
I have already re-potted it in a tall pot without disturbing the roots much, and have begun some basic wiring. I am trying not to remove much of the material at all. I have not had the best of luck with Juniper in the past. I believe I have always tried to do to much to fast. I am going to try the same thing again but without removing as much and just being much more careful and delicate with every step. If this does not survive, I will try again. and again and again, until I get it right.

--I am not an expert--
After the wiring is done soon, I will post updated pictures. I do not like the new pot (not pictured yet) but it was the closest thing that I had to what I want. It will be changed out in the future.

So here is the tree with only mild trimming (maybe a liters worth). For me it is better to leave as many branches as possible for now in case any die off (past experience). I wired about a third of the branches (mostly the branches visible from the front). I had to fabricate the crown out of two longer branches as there were no real good vertical branches to work with. I would love to try an upright juniper but I cant seem to find any shimpaku around my area yet. I will be on the lookout. I left some aerial roots under the canopy, but I may end up taking those off. I will also be trimming the cascade on the right side of the tree a bit shorter in the future, but I was hesitant to take to much off. I am not a fan of the pot. it is to heavy looking, to tall, and to dark, and to glazed I would have liked to not use shiny wire, but It will come off eventually.
Any comments are fine, Thanks for looking.

The pot looks too tall for a semi-cascade and it shouldn't be glazed,as you said. I wouldn't worry about the wire for now as it is probably not going to be in a show for at least a few more years . Everything else seems fine, it could become a good looking tree.

Looks nice for nursery stock. At least here where I live, finding a procumbens nana like that is not easy at all.

nice try, for the next tree you can try this.
don't repot, if it's growing in there and looks healty why repot.
i cut away the first 5 cm from the plastic pot and style the tree.
and you have to decide what will be your front and the main branch. it will be the branch whith
the most character. on this side (in my pic low left) this is the sunside, so the most of the foliage is on this side.
this will be the longside of the triangel you try to creacte.
than you look for a branch in the back and the for the right side and so you build up the tree.
the top of the tree is nearly always growing towards the sun ,so on the long side of the triangel.
maybe this wil help you next time.
you have to spread out the branches of this plant to let the air and sunlight in, otherwise the foliage will die.

I wired to create the shape that you see. I wired the cascade branches down and then out at the tips and leveled them parallel to the ground. Also, the canopy is completely fabricated out of two longer branches that were wired into a single wave shape to create the mound of canopy you see. Without wiring, it would just be a flat and uninteresting top to the tree.
I trimmed the foliage that grew out of the cascade area and towards the pot to show off the branch bark on the inside of the tree. I also trimmed the secondary new growth that was growing down out of the bottom of the branches. I left the horizontal secondary branches and upward growing secondary branches.

OK, maybe that was a bit short.
If I look at the branches with wire, I see them going pretty much straugh down. Fairly uninteresting. Bring a few curves in there.
As for trimming: The plant looks like a massive green cover. No openings or inteerst. i doubt you wired individual branchlets, and I do not see a lot of thinning. I think that will be needed to develop te tree.

I agree. I had been thinking the same thing.
As far as the fullness, I was just afraid to thin to much for now. But I will.
