Guess I'll show off one of my little creations.

I've had the tree for three years now, and it is one of my first trees. I'm a little attached to it, since I've managed to not only keep it alive, but healthy. It's a little Ficus that I bought at a Wal-Mart for about $5, and was mostly meant to be a "we'll see if you die" kind of tree.

Here's the little guy after being taken out of the nursery pot.

Gave it a a year, mostly because I was afraid that I would kill it by going to fast, and then put it in a wider pot, that was just as deep as it's original pot.

Three months later, the wife says, "It's too tall. I think you should make it shorter." As is the case in my life, she was right. I also pruned away some of the branches that were a little too low. I also tried to bring the growth closer to the trunk.

This year, it went into a smaller pot, and had the growth pushed back a little more. Gonna give it some time to fill out, and then I'll work on some of the finer branching.

Any feedback and tips would be greatly appreciated!

I love the shape and size of the pot you chose. Does it live in that pot year round, or is it a show pot?

And I'm jealous of the canopy on your tree. It's very compact and full of life.

Yes it stays in this container year round, it is from Bellota bonsai pottery in the U.S.
Your tree will get better with time so don't be too jealous, good things come to those who wait.

Little guy got some pruning and light wire for shape, but nothing really interesting. I'll post a picture once it fills in with some new growth.

Photo of the little guy this fall. It filled in a bit, and besides feeding, nothing much else done. Wire was taken off because it began to bite in, but nothing serious.

I might get rid of the root on the right. Maybe lower the soil and pot it higher. I'll make up my mind through the winer.

Nice!
Is it possible to get the leaves/branching to start closer to the trunk ?
On the right it kinda looks like a pom pom :p

It does! I noticed it once the picture went up. Isn't too bad in person, but still.

I haven't messed to much with it's Autumn growth, because I really want the tree to fill in more. It will also probably lose some leaves over the winter since it stays outside.

I'll take note and bring that branch in a little more though. Gotta clean the bottom of the pads, too.

I'm also thinking of a smaller pot. Little guy isn't close to being done. I wanted to show how well it's done this year.
