too bad about the stress/juvenile needles.. have a blauuws that..
ever considered to graft itoigawa foliage on this? witha trunk like that it will make for a great small tree with some top foliage

The juvenile is a tough one to swallow, though another friend in the area can gets good scale foliage by getting the tree really pot bound (the kid works wonders). With this tree still in training, I'm not super concerned about it.
Virginia junipers in the wild generally have a good bit off mature scale foliage. I'm really curious about how my local trees respond to bonsai training, but the foliage issue with such stress puts a damper on it.
As far as grafting, I'm a real newbie. Seen it done, read a bunch, but never performed it. I'll give it a shot on some other material before attempting with this one, and I'll keep you posted!
