Hello everyone ,
Just got a new tree from a garden centre quite cheap ( lonicera nitida ) i bought it because i liked the trunk and nebari but im not quite sure about the branching. Does anybody think its got potential ? And if possible , does anybody have any advice on pruning this species . I did read up on it and i understand its quite forgiving but whats the best technique on this one ?

Ok so ive been advized to give this this tree a good hard prune by someone in my bonsai club so i did . The problem is he didnt give me any advice on the design and told me to experiment, so i did.
Here are the results any comments will be apreciated

Yes a good start, next year it will grow well, and you can continue to style it. Nice choice of starter material. I would re pot next spring to get it into good soil and you will know when it was re potted which is always useful to know.

Im pleased to know that i made the right cuts and that i made the right choice of material this is actually my first vompliment in bonsai making so in very happy
I will repot in spring as you say and ill hope ill have a vigourous growth next year .

Nice. I got one of those, sold to me as a Boxwood (10 euro).
The previous owner got annoyed by the fact that it kept making new shoots at the base of the trunk. LOL.
It does indeed, and obviously I'm letting them grow

Not sure what I'm going to do with it this year, I'll post a picture later.

For your tree:
Keep what you need, remove what doesn't suite the future design.
Other than that I think you can let it grow for a while.

I would really appreciate it.

Start by making a sketch of the tree you want to grow, and where you would need branches. Then work from there.

For now: Every point where more then 2 branches occur (So, if you have a main branch & 2 side branches), remove one of them. Never have more then 2 at any point. Do this in a clever way: If you remove the middle, the branch forks. If you remove the left, your branch will grow to the right etc.
