I pruned hard Buxus ball we have in our garden for over 20 years.
Next year I will dig it out and then we?ll see.
I think it?s going to make beautiful bonsai one day :)

Nice one. Now let it recover a bit, get green again. In late summer you can consider trimming the roots, by putting a spade in the ground all around the rootball. By March you should have triggered the plant in making new your roots closer to the trunk, helping the process of regrowing it in a container. I find boxwood to deal very well with rood reduction.

In the light of collecting boxwoods, I dug one out of a garden yesterday and put it in a pot, but it is so friggin massive all the foliage is on the outer sides of the branches. Question is: does the sempervirens backbud on old wood if you cut off all green?

Thanks in advance!

Update on this buxus.
I followed Leatherback?s advice and there were plenty of new roots where I cut them last year.
Once I collected it recently, I decided that a new front will be the back side, that is not visible on first pics.
It looks like a tree house to me and I will make a fairytale penjing out of it next year, if it will thrive this season.

And since it looks like 2 watering cans in a row, I will try to move the growth towards the main trees and go for something like this:

Looks a little "pom-pom" to me, I think you can get a much better tree out of this.
