Did you cut back the roots or was that all that was there? I was surprised to see so few roots. When did you take the cutting? I hope it works, ficus are pretty hardy so it should.

thats it, its been rooting for about 2 months .it really surprized me too.
the base was alot lower in the soil than i thought so thats why the roots were coming out the bottom. this one has a brother that is doing the same i may do another ROR with that one too. its shape isnt as interesting as this one tho. this ones guna sit till around december and then ill open it ,unless i see roots coming out of the bottom again i know they wont be small

howdy y'all
well i decided to do some work on this one today it kinda just poped into muy head how i was going to style it while doing morning dishes
the thing that sucks is i dont have the pics from when i did a root check last month, but they are doing great. i could pick the tree up and the rock stayed put :woohoo: i spent an hour removing the sphagnum moss from around the roots,it was a real pain so next ROR planting i am going to grind it up finer i repositioned some of the roots and rubberbanded them in place.
this is an earlier pic i found to give some referance

seeing this is a retusa it may be tough to pull off the windswept effect when the leaves emerge, but i am persistant and noone ever said bonsai was easy

nice tree!
it is always nice to see how a plant/tree was and how it is now.

I could see this making a nice penjing style bonsai with a few figurines on a flat tray and a nice landscape to go with it. I love the movement, good job

Looks like a fun project, I plan on making a penjing bonsai some time, I brought a nice little swan figurine to go in a water display below a tree. Im still waiting for the right tree.
