Its a very nice find. I haven't even heard of red pine before. The tree is really cute and has some sleek movement in it. Have you ever heard of pop bonsai? Try googling it, it may give you some cool ideas for this plant.

red pine has a red tint to the underbark and young branches much like a yellow pine is yellow.the are faster growers tho...finger tip, thimble bottle cap oh yeah those are crazy this one too big for that.there was a lady at the show selling them 7 years in a pot trunk the size of 2 toothpicks and 3 inches tall.quite amazing but not for me. i worry about my shohin drying out those things need watering 3 to 5 times a day

Hmm interesting about the red needles, sounds very interesting. Ya I've heard a joke that mame trees are for pensioners because they need so much time to be looked after. I don't think pop bonsai ever really took off, it's was just like planting small trees in modern looking pots i guess.

bonsai mystery ??? this one went from green to brown in 3 days no idea why...
i saw the grower at a bonsai show over the weekend and he was just as surprized as me he said even cutting the roots wouldnt have effected enough to kill it ( i didn't cut any) but he will be glad to replace it next time i see him ... its nice to see a grower that is not just in it for the cash

A shame to hear about the red pine, I saw one of Lyndsay Farr's videos of him working on a red pine. They must be really slow growing, he had it in the ground for 20 years and it was still only a couple of feet tall.
