Yup, I know them as field mice. I have 3 cats so I don't have a problem with them chewing my trees. I do however have lots of them at camp...

sad to say this one didnt make the winter layover...it dried out too much in the summer and went out of cycle sprouting new leaves in mid fall.it was still green when winter hit :pinch: it was my favorite tree.

Hm.. Not sure how certain you are it is dead.. Trees can also just be slow. After all, spring is just starting in most parts of the world Where are you located?). For the first 3 months of spring do not toss it, but put it in a sheltered location and water sparingly. Sometimes 'obviously dead' plants bounce right back. (e.g.: I have taken a ficus cutting, from a branch I found in Italy; Placed it in a pot wrapped in foil. It took 6 months to root, and 8 months for the first leaves to appear. It ended up growing to 3 meter tall tree in my office within 3 years; Also Creatagus may have trouble leafing out in spring, and all of the sudden bounce back, up to the spring one year later).
I cannot see the plant, so I cannot tell. For me, I would just keep the plant for the time being.

thanks for your condolences . ive been searching for another but they all just dont have the majestic look this one had it was so perfect
jelle,
after the first warm snap it comes in the house to give it a longer growing season (being small it doesnt take much room) i realized things werent good when i tried removing wire and all the twigs were brittle. after a week of nothing i gave the fattest branch a little bend and it snapped off and was dry as a bone. i havent tossed it yet hoping some life is left in the trunk but im almost sure hes gone
