Here is a picture of my only indoor bonsai. It's a little too lanky and thin, but It's all I have to get me through the long painful Maine winter. haha
I partially defoliated it this spring hoping to get smaller leaves....it didn't quite work out as I had planned

Are those a couple of verigated leaves I see? Nice little Scheff you have there...is it a mini arboricola?
If you want to avoid the long and lanky they need lots of bright, indirect light. With my full sized Scheff there were several times when I chopped it off at mid-trunk level and the results were all kinds of branch shoots. Thanks Leslie. What's odd about this sheff is that it has been sitting on a window sill for over a year. It was re-potted and put there. I feed it, water it, and watch it do nothing. haha

I can relate to what you're saying. It seems once the Schefflera has become long and lanky it refuses to do anything from the upper leaves down. If it were mine, I'd definitely chop it back at least half to two thirds down the trunk.
