Hey kids,
I know it's a little off topic, but it's the beginning of "clearance season" in the garden department at the big box places.Tonight I love this time of year.I got a boxwood tonight for $5.00 at Wal-mart. So if you're looking for cheap nursery stock to play with...now is the time

It's so nice be called a *kid* again..."giggle"
Wow! What a fabulous looking Boxwood! And for 5 dollars, you say! :woohoo: Most plants found in stores this time of year are looking worse for the wear. Good find, Lance. Congratulations!
You won't be able to do very much with it this time of year, right? Other than maybe slip-potting it?

Leslie,
One of the reasons I got this is because it can be repotted in fall and major branch pruning is done in winter.it'll give me something to do. I think its going to be fun.

Hi Lance,
According to this: ...certain species can be grown indoors. Will you be doing the same with yours? What size is your Boxwood?
You know, the more I look at your tree, the more I luv it!...the small glossy leaves, the look and shape of the trunk and all those wonderful branches to play with. You're going to have fun with this one!
Just don't eat the leaves, K?...they'll make you

Leslie,
This isn't one of the varieties that can be grown inside . What I'm going to do is re-pot it this weekend and wait for it to go dormant and chop off a lot of the branches. It needs to be thinned out so the inner branches will produce leaves. I might go back and get another one tomorrow.

Boxwood is great material for bonsai, they are slow growers but are cheap and has small leaves and a rough bark. This is a really nice tree you've found. It has a good trunk movement with lots of branches that are growing on the good places.
And I agree, it's fun to start styling raw material, I can't wait to see what for beauty lies in it
Good luck with working on the tree!

Hey guys,
As I was looking around inside this tree I noticed one of the major branches was broken, so I took that opportunity to do a little trimming. here is the beginning if it's journey.

It's looking good, take time to choose which branches you'll keep and which branches are going to stay, good luck

Yuri,
Since boxwood grows slowly, any branch pruning is going to be well thought out. I would like to prune off all but one large branch and some of the minor branches attached to that branch. I don't like the "fullness" of this tree.evil and twisted is what I would like people to think when they see this tree....if that makes sense. It's going to be a few years before that happens, I know.
That is just my initial thought on this tree. I'm up for suggestions regarding this tree's styling

I probably would have thought of something more classic and feminine but Hey!...twisted and evil works too!
I'm kinda wishing I could do outdoor trees just so I could get one of these. It's going to make an excellent haunted bonsai!
