So i bought this maple a few months back and i was wondering if i should repot it now or wait till next season. Also I’m thinking if should keep the three trunks kr take one or two of them off. Any input is appropriated

Hi, I can see a potentially nice nebari with radial roots... so I would keep only one branch, the thinnest of the 3, to get some taper, chopping it no more than 10 cm above...
But I'm not an expert so let's wait for other more experienced enthusiast in the forum!

That trifurcation causes an inverse taper you’re never going to get rid of...
I would chop and regrow entirely (actually, I have a similar Japanese maple with which I’m doing exactly that right now).

It looks pretty, im gonna need to get something to protect it from wind and direct sun. When did you repot it in a bonsai pot?

This was growing in a standard garden pot, forgotten in a corner for a number of years (5 or 6 I think). The trunk originally bifurcated right where you now see that knee.
I chopped the entire thing mid-february, leaving only one of the two trunks originating from that bifurcation, heavily reduced the roots and moved it into this pot just because it's flat enough and was unused, not because it's a bonsai pot...
The final pot will have to be way smaller than that...
