Repotted this Acer to a wooden container.
First time I did a repot.
All under the guidance of Yannick from Yama 名媛直播 Studio (who’s like the perfect person to guide me in my 名媛直播journey)
Akadama 80/ Bims 20 with spagnum moss on top.
Did a trunkchop to make this a smal tree, left a sacrificial branch to thicken the trunk.
Curious to see what will happen in the near future as I’ve never did something like this before.
But can say that I’m loving every step I’ve taken so far to learn and gain experience!

I am curious about why you cut the tree at such an early stage, most of it is still green on the outside. I see a sucker branch let grow intact, is that going to feed the trunk and be the new leader? I would've let it grow for much longer until the trunk was much thicker, then do the cut. I am curious to what the strategy with this tree is, and why do it this way. Thanks for sharing.

I'm guessing that's exactly the plan.
Yannick Kiggen is not unknown in the (Dutch) bonsai world.

On the dutch bonsaiempire, he said the lower branche was sacrificial to ticken the lower trunk.
Then in the hope to get a new leader around the blue arrow. To gain some taper in the trunk.
I also find it a hard cut. Because from what i see, the acer grow slow, compaired to other species.
Going to follow this topic, because i am still a n00b lol. And i don't have an acer, but really want one.

I’m also a noob. But what rorror said is exactly what the ‘plan’ is.
We’ll see how the Acer responds to this. Yannick gave me the go ahead and I trust him.
