I realy don't like the lowest part of the trunk, if it was mine I would airlayer it just under the first swirl

I agree it's a weird plant, but tbh its weirdness is the reason why I took it

First thing I have thought: "why not bury the straight lower part of the trunk"?

That's indeed a good option, yes. But I haven't dug into the soil to how see the roots are yet, so it would depend on what's under there too...
