If you are concerned, you can of course bring it in every night that frost is expected untill spring. Considering your climate that will not be too often. But, as said in many threads, my chinese elms stay outside in all but the worst cold (Colder then -10 I might protect them). Mine has had some 9 nights of frost this season and is still growing (!)

During nights when frost is expected place it in a shed for the night for the next 6 weeks and the plant should have adjusted. (Plants do not really have a memory, and just respond to local conditions; So over a period of 4-6 weeks you can get a plant to adjust to colder circumstances, and trigger them into going i winter mode).
I'm just a bit concerned because it has been kept in a heated environment for now, so I'm afraid it might get shocked if I put it outside.

Since the weather is currently relatively warm I suppose it could go outside, I imagine real sunlight will do it a world of good, and i can keep an eye on the weather for when the cold comes, and bring it in at night. The balcony is fairly sheltered, so it should be fine, and my potted yuzu trees* seem to be fine there too.
* proper trees, not bonsai, although I have been looking at them speculatively
