Posted 5 years 3 months ago #52634My name is Cesar Urbina, I’m from Chihuahua, Mexico!
This is the first stage of design work of this Procumbens Juniper. I hope you like it and I’ll appreciate your opinion about it. Here are the most representative moments of the work. I worked in 7 sessions with my teacher David Calahorra from “Centro Jardinero Especializado” in Chihuahua city.

Posted 5 years 3 months ago #52698I don't like the deadwood though, it is too much and it looks unnatural.

True, true, I'm a bit of a boring guy who doesn't sufficiently think out of the box. Indeed, it is a unique specimen and it's an art, so you're free to do what you like - as long as you're doing bonsai - and as said, the foliage pads are done properly so yeah... all good.
It's just that it doesn't look logical to me (for lack of a better word). Branches die, deadwood does occur in nature, but it's normally one side or part of the tree that's exposed. Here it looks like all branches are affected, no matter where, so the living parts... well... don't make sense as they would have been exposed to the same forces.
Notice I 'm NOT saying it's a bad tree, it's just a matter of taste I guess. Let's see how it develops.
