Today I received a small " Black Hills Spruce" nursery stock from my neighbor who evidently wanted to give me a present for pet-sitting for them during their vacation.....anywho, I have never worked with Spruces before and this one, while healthy and young looking, has me scratching my head. I live in Midwestern America( zone 6a) and we are now as of a week ago, just getting out of an (abnormal) extensive heat wave so I am assuming this thing was somehwat well taken care of to survive this.
Any advice on what to do with this? Put it in the ground and forget about it? I'm honestly kind of intrigued by the potential challenge and considering it was free, and my first spruce, there is experience to be gained even if the tree itself is not ever going to be much.
