Castile soap+ Neem oil first. If it’s not working, different Gesal insecticides, depends on bug.
Or.. manual remove.. : )

Wire the new leader now. It will set in a few weeks and you are golden for next season.

I’ve made a mistake when I’ve reduced the shoots at spring.. just not enough short...:dry: I think if I try to correct it in the summer, this tree won’t bud out and got weakened... Advice please

Maybe I am a little too wavy in my wirings, but I would bend the leader much more.
Not like spaghetti bonsai, but...

I understand your viewpoint. On junipers I put loops if I feel, but here I don’t really know what I’m doing.
I hesitated to make more waves, but I’m not sure if it will fits on the desired design later.. Currently what I can see is just the movement I want to follow, but nothing more.
And...
I’m a rookie.. I don’t know the tree, I must learn how it reacts to things I do with. I don’t know how much I can reduce leaf size, how far I can go with ramification, what pace of work it need, etc...
This is tough that I need to imagine how a tree would look like in 5-10 years depends what Im doing with it now. I need to cut and wire something what I must imagine thicker and more mature.. Even fertilization can ruin plans, cause p.ex I miscalculate the nitrogen and I’ve got longer internodes then expected. That tree is incredible fast, so I need to see clear ASAP...

The styling is your choice. Main importance: Keep the shape in line with previous work. So it all if fairly straight, keep the leader fairly straight.

fwiw.. I trimmed my malus in development this weekend, and fertilized heavily to get another growth spurt.

Jelle, it’s the first tree I started to design from nothing. With the others I already had something to follow, or they’re not ready at all for.. I’ll do my best as I can.. : )

Oki, so you see the new growth sprouting from the 3rd or 4th leaf. If I cut this back to two leaves and I push with higher nitrogen for a moment, you think I’m still ok?
