Then you should start from the beginning !
From these seedlings of a Japanese black pine, one can manage to get a decent exposed roots shohin (a cascade in this case) in 7 or 8 years. Plenty of fun!

Wow that is impressive. My seeds have much to live up to now. How did you manage to get that root exposure?

In fact they go dormant here in Sao Paulo.
They stop growing, water intake is reduced to a bare minimum, and in the spring the buds start to swell (time to repot! Yes!)
But I agree, having a very long growing season helps a lot!

That looks amazing! When planting your seeds did you use just normal soil or a special kind?

For pine seeds I use "normal" bonsai mix plus coarse sand to help root development.
It works for me!
