I'm a beginner bonsai tree owner.. I've had it for about 6 months. I've noticed that for most of summer no new leaves have been growing and now i am seeing a green moss with a white coating on the base of the trunk. attached is a picture.
is the white on the tree a fungus?? how do i revive my tree?!

Looks like you've killed your first mallsai (not sure though, on the photo I cannot even see what kind of tree this is - or has been), probably due to wrong watering techniques. I'm guessing you gave it too much water and did not let it dry sufficiently between waterings.
You can try removing the drip tray, reduce the amount of water you give it, and wait. Looks to me that will be a waste of time though.
Start reading the 'basics' on this site and try and get real bonsai (starter) material.
