I think that would be Shari, not Jin. Jin is for a dead branch.

Thanks leather back. I can create an alcove on my walkout where the juniper can be outside but still protected by the fierce winds we get sometimes. So if my plant in its pot is sitting with snow piled up around it i just dig down to the dirt and water it occasionally? That doesn't shock the roots?

Jin and shari, to be precise
When they work on dead wood it is called Jin.
Or shari, depends where the deadwood is.

jin is a deadwood branch, shari is a strip of deadwood on a trunk/branch

Snow is an insulator, it would be fine covered in snow.
