Chinese Elm- New leaves are large....why? was created by Danial son

I have a Chinese Elm (indoor) and when it first arrived it had small leaves and looked good. After about ten days I started using a liquid fertilizer called Dyno Grow 名媛直播 Pro which has a 7-9-5 ratio. I mixed 1/4 TSP per gallon of water.

Within 2 days the tree started growing but I noticed all the new leaves were twice the size than the leaves the tree had. About 10 days ago I pruned the tree and got rid of all the huge new leaves as well as trimming other areas.

I didn't give it fertilizer for a few days and then started back. I am noticing new growth that looks good but in some areas I am noticing a few big leaves shooting out. What can I do to keep the leaves small, like they were when I got the tree, ? Should I switch to a different type of fertilizer? Also- I am using distilled water on my tree- is that ok? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Fertilizing your tree can cause bigger leafs, it's not something to be worried about, there are techniques to making smaller leafs. Distilled water is good to. There are more experienced members on here that could better detail than me. Welcome to the Empire

The tree should be outside not in, distilled water is a waste of money, there is nothing wrong with tap water. As for the leaves they will grow large and then they are cut back. That's the way it is. The fertiliser is high in nitrogen and this will not help with leaf size.

The less light = the bigger leaves.
Put it outside for summer, let it get accustomed to direct sunlight first though - put it in the semi shaded area.
Your fertilizer is OK, trees need to be fertilized to be healthy.
