Hi, I'm 14 and I got my first bonsai tree. It came in a small pot so I put it in a bigger pot with new soil. No I have noticed gnats swarming the tree so I made a vinegar trap and that didn't stop them, my Fukein Tea bonsai is COVERED in gnats and their larvae and the tree is starting to die. I don't have the money for expensive pests control. Thanks for your help

Water the plant properly. Allow the soil to dry (but do not let it dry out completely).

I have found that neem oil works good, you can pick some up at Wal-Mart for fairly cheep.

Gnats do not come to vingear traps; That would be for fruit flies.
Neem oil does not work on animals that reproduce & have their your stages in the ground.
Do as auk sais. Gnats live of fungus which grow in soil that is too organic & wet. Putting the plant outside also helps a lot.

It's a bit tricky, but a small breeze, either from being outside or from a small fan, can make it hard for the gnats to hang around the tree. Let the soil dry out a little though. It does sound like your soil is too wet.
