Hello everyone. I am looking for some cheap material as to practice with and I'm looking for a pine, I know enough about black and white pines to get me buy but the only pines sold in my local garden centers are Australian pines and even with some resurch I don't know much about them. Any feed back would be helpful. Thank you

Now is a great time for gathering free material. Just on the route I walk my dog there is 2 or 3 field maple trees which have loads of last year's seeds have sprouted in places they wouldn't be allowed to grow like down the side of a fence. There are also some Hawthorne seedlings sprouting along the alley leading through to the trading estate. If you keep your eyes open there are loads about.
The other option is to gather seeds at the end of the year and sow them. Nearly all my trees are found or sown I'm going to have to get rid of some soon my seeds from last year's collecting have been too successful.
I have some Japanese black pine seeds bought off eBay that have germinate successfully.

I did gather some seeds, I have a couple of maple trees growing now can't wait to see how they turn out. I did collect one tree from the wild but wasn't sure if it was going to make it now it has buds growing and tinny leafs. Pines don't really grow wild were I live but I have taken a clipping from another tree (with permission of course) and waiting to see if it strikes or not. The evergreens out here in the wild look like a type of juniper with needles have to look them up. But what I really want is a pine, kinda excited to work on one. But like I said the garden centers here in Missouri don't sell them and can't get me one so I'm stuck either buying a graft from an online shop or getting an Australian pine witch I know nothing about.

Also I did collect some eastern red bud seeds but not sure how they would turn out as a bonsai, they do flower. If u have any thoughts about those or a good method of sowing them let me know, I have tried quite a few different ways but have been unsuccessful.

Patience lad, that's a big part of bonsai. Grow a few practice trees in the meantime ... (who knows, maybe Australian pines behave much the same). Sometimes, it takes a while finding 'em, Mostly, you just see a tree, that aught'a work, and take it home. No matter what it is.

Thank you Samantha, very true patients is a virtue in almost every thing in life. I will try the tree and see what works best. But when it comes to those seeds I have looked up many ways of germinating them and nothing has worked so far, any tips would be helpful, I will continue to persiver and keep trying
