Hi , I just recently moved my 2 ficuses outside (about a week ago) as the night temperature was over 5 degrees ( apart from one night it went to 4 ) and this is what has been happening to the leaves

Is it due to the cold or could it be something else ?

Ficus is a tropical tree, and temperatures below 10 degrees C are not common in the tropics. I guess they don't like cold nights and they stress.

I've been told they are all right down to 5 degrees , maybe they just need to get used to it , I'm just asking in case they are in in risk of death or they are just adjusting ?

Why don't you wait a little longer? That's pretty cold temperatures for the tropics. They can sustain such temperatures, 1 or 2 nights but not constantly. It might be too early!. I don't bring any tropical plant outside until it is full on summer.

Ok I'll wait longer next year because from now on the temp at least for next week doesn't drop below 11 so they should be fine , unless it's better to put them back in now that they are stressed ?

It is not related to the cold. Ficus may drop leaves if they do not like the transition.

What you see is sunburn. Just like you get sunburnt in full sun. Plants need time to adjust from the dark indoors to the scorching outdoors. One of my trees looks the same. Do not remove them, the trun is sun sensitive too!

4-5 C sounds too harsh to me for a tropical tree.

I was waiting for your reply leatherback:) I thought it could be sunburn but I usually go darker after I get sunburn not lighter lol so it doesn't need any special care? Like sun lotion for example hehehe

Ideally you provide a spot where the plant does not get a lot of direct siunlight. But the main damage is done for now.
I just leave the plant, and it will regrow a new crop of leaves.
