I need some help with these "mallsai" . Ones a Ficus and ones a Fukien. I've had them for a few weeks under humidity and a grow light. Recently reported them. They both have that typical s curve and the Fukien are have potted in a somewhat unorthodox way. I would like to hear some advice on styling or just in general what I should do with these two pieces. I know they aren't grade a bonsai material but give me a break on that. I am learning on cheap so once I know what I'm doing I can care for the real deal. I would really appreciate as many tips as I could get on how to get these looking better. Don't mind the excessive wiring on the ficus. Just trying to get a decent front.

So you think air layering both? Or just the Ficus? They seem to be healthy and I give them really close care. I just can't see a vision of what I want them to look like it what my possibilities are. Even if it takes 5 years To get it looking semi okay..it would be worth it to me. I think there's some potential though..

I don?t bother with carmonas anymore, gave up on them.
The tip was to try and make a landscape, with one tree, or airlayering ficus and have more of it.
But potencial for bonsai on the plant alone is .... low.
It won?t grow much in the pot.
To make it bigger you need to plant it in big container, fertilize a lot, and give it ideal conditions, put it outside in the summer ....
That?s a very very long run to turn this into any interesting bonsai.
I would leave it alone, let it live and grow and get some prebonsai material to work on instead.

Thank you for the tips. That's pretty much what I needed to hear. Finding Pre bonsai material where I am from has been hard...as ive been to every nursery around. ..looks like I'm gonna have to start diggIng a bit deeper

Your tree needs lots of lots of sun. Its the first step to take in the transformation.

Znickles there are good sections on this websites that talk about different ways to get started. Seeds being the cheapest but longest timeline. Cuttings will get you there a little sooner. I am just learning like you but have been collecting material from my yard to get things to practice on cheap.
