The plant gets its energy through the leaves. Do not prune them this way. If you continue to prune leaves when they get to a certain size, you will weaken the plant and it may eventually die.

It does not exactly work this way. You prune to get more ramification. Ramification gives more leaves. More leaves per branch = smaller leaves.
You need growth before you can prune. You really need to let this plant grow first.
There? nothing you can wire, really. Let it grow.

I am a bit worried it might not be getting enough water. It takes about a week+ for the soil to dry out. That is when i soak it with the hose for about three minutes.

Your plant needs to be left alone, grow. When it is just one ball of green, other things come to play. This may be months from now. Patiences is skill nr one in bonsai.
