Is it okay to used landscaping/garden cloth , it comes in black roles and is used by people in gardens to keep weeds down, but lets water drain through.
Would this be okay or bad for covering the drainage holes in pots?
Thank you.

I have used it on some of my trees. It's fine to use on plants that don't require a well draining soil. I have it on Chinese Elms and azaleas.

Thanks for the advice, I had a feeling it wasn't very good since I haven't seen it on any of the bonsai videos I have watched, but I had half a roll sitting around so thought I should at least ask.

Thanks again.

Out of curiosity:
Why not use the standard mesh that most people use? Or is that hard to get in your region?

I will. I already had half a roll of the landscape fabric in my shed so I asked if it's useful or not.

In my case: I have found th builders mesh when I needed something for large containers with some 20 holes drilled in them for garden-collected material. I just needed something quick and easy that did not require extensive cutting & wiring in place. Self-adhesive builders gauze used for drywall found its way in my standard materials collection. .

Thanks for the suggestions of using drywall joint tape, I think it will work quick and easy.

Do realize it is a pain to get out of your roots after 2 years. In my case, I cut off that part of the roots anyway. But if you are more conservative..
