Hi guys, I'm very new to bonsai and have been given this tree is a very bad shape. Was kept in standing water and leaves are dried out and crunchy. The soil is waterlogged and I'm wondering if the tree is able to be saved and how? Many thanks in advance

Very bad shape indeed. Drowned, it seems.
Let it dry, water it when the soil is dry, and pray. Sometimes some trees recover.

Thanks for your speedy reply. I'll let it dry and see how it does. Hope it can make it.

Put it out on fresh air and mild sun and let the soil dry. Then pray.

take off the soil and give it a new substrate, remove rotten roots, then keep it in a shaded area for a while until it start building new shoots.

Thanks should I remove the dried leaves or let them come off on their own? Really hope I can save this tree as it has some interesting features on it. Such a shame people are selling these without doing any research into care.

I personal think the branches are to long and may have dried out too. Check on the skin with your nail, if they are alive underneath. I would cut the whole tree back, but this is your choice to make.

And none taken. Like I said, the seller gave me this tree for free as they didn't think it would live. And I thought if I can't save it in get a free pot. I'm very new to bonsai so know I have a lot to learn and will be taking the courses on this website once I get paid at the end of the month. And with the interesting features I was referring to the root structure showing above the soil. I just really like it ?. Thanks again for all your help and advice.
