Help with Conifer ID was created by dmey

Hi..I live in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic . We have a mountain climate here, even though we are in the caribbean ,mostly Hispaniola pine (pinus occidentallis) forests and im interested in using more conifers for bonsai, rather than the more typical ficus and other tress that are more 'tropical'. I just bought this tree at a local nursery. It was sold to me as a juniperus horizontalis. It was in about a gallon plastic pot but when i went to check it out it came out of the soil as you see in the pic.

It had apparently just been dug up from somewhere. It seems like a fairly mature tree ,yet the leaves are needle like and not the usual scale type of mature junipers.. , so im not sure what it is.. I would like to know what it is in order to properly go about styling it and developing it . Im not sure if i should go ahead and style it now, remove branches and wire etcc , or if I should plant it well and let it establish before doing that. Any help, or advice is welcome.

I think it should go to the soil and be there for a while, and not to another pot. I guess it is not advisable to style it right now.

Juniper horizontalis keep their needle foliage even when mature , this looks like good material , looking forward to progressions ;)

Before you do a lot of work on it, focus on gerting it established on its roots. Whether in pot or soil is up to you.

Thank You.. I decided to go ahead and pot it up in the position that i wil style it in.. and then let it establish before doing anymore work on it.. I chose a cascade for it thinking about later making some nice jins and deadwood from some of the branches. I've always heard here than when trees are uprooted from the ground and loose lots of roots that one should remove a proportional amount of foliage.. but ive been updating my knowledge and ive read your not supposed to do that anymore?, especially with junipers.. any thoughts on that?.. I also used to swear by Superthrive but dont have any to give it.. have also read some articles that say it doesnt really do much.. Anyways.. its potted up , keeping it in the shade for about a week and then slowly to morning sun. Hopefully it will do well. Im suscribed at Mirai live and am also taking the 名媛直播 Empire intermediate course.. Trying to get some updated info and knowledge about conifers that i can adapt to the very particular climate zone I am in. Thanks for all the help..

IMHO, the right choice.

I agree you?e not supposed to do that.

I have read that saying 3 hail-mary's will do the same. Still, I have it in my collection of fertilizers and other stuff :)
One day i should test it... see if it does make any difference. As far as I know, it doesn't.

I look forward to seeing its progression!
