I'm new to bonsai and just bought this juniper ...
What are your suggestions for how to style this , or what should I do with it at this moment ?
It's a little over 12" and has many thin branches...it's trunk splits at the top
Any and all tips will be appreciated..

Put a shape in the trunk with a piece of wire. Plant it in the garden. Forget about it for a decade.

I think i agree with leatherback as far as this tree becoming instant bonsai.
The problem with it is the tree is very young and needs to grow alot and thicken and develop and that unfortunately takes a long time.
But asfar having some fun with it and using this material to hone in your horticultural skills i see no problem with it.
Make sure its kept out doors junipers do not like being kept indoors.
Learn to keep it healthy, and if your going to keep it in a pot (i would plant it in the ground if i were you).
Reaserch the diferences between growing out material in the ground vrs growing in a pot and how each method will help you gain what you want out of your tree.
Learn proper watering techniques and fertilizing programs.
Forget about styling it for now apart from putting some dirction on the trunk now whilst it is still supple.
And enjoy it for what it is.

You dont have to put it in the ground, but you do need to keep it outside year round. Junipers grow slowly and thats why its frustrating for beginners. Get some pics of 'juniper bonsai' off the internet for inspiration and learn the basics of branch structure and wiring. Its is very young so the good news is that its potential is endless and you dont have to choose anytime soon. A rookie mistake that we all have been through is getting a new plant and start hacking off branches without thinking about whats going to happen 10 years down the road.
Also, where did you get it? if you got it from a big box or department store, then most likely the soil is garbage. You need good draining, coarse soil. you can learn about soil from any bonsai website or bonsai youtube channel.

I want to pot it cause I'm not in a living situation where I'm gonna be staying permanently...but I could pot it in some bonsai soil and let it grow for a while I suppose. I have a small Fukien and a Small ginseng ficus as well that I plan to let go for a while. Thanks for the strait forward feedback. If you guys have any more advice for a novice on where to start or what your tips are in general I would much appreciate it.

Wire trunk only for now? Apart from letting it mature?

Hm. I think I wouldn't forget it for a decade when it's wired.
