I have re potted a ginseng ficus into C6 size pot. The tree is 10yrs old. I would like the tree to become much larger. So the trunk is very pot bellied and I want to know how to make the trunk more elegant. Can one carve some of the fat part away? Without killing the thing of course.
Or can you add to the branches thickness to make it look more logical? Thank you.

Ginseng fius are actually two species of fig, pasted together through grafting. The trunk are actually swollen roots of, I think, F benjamina.
Personally, I would not spend a lot of time on this plant, but get a better type of ficus. Only if you are in the tropics can you hope for enough growth to make something realistic out of these plants, I wm afraid.
