Brown crispy leaves on repotted old Hawthorn :-( was created by zelak999

Hi,
this is my first post on here so please be gentle!
I have acquired a lovely old Hawthorn and repotted it two weeks ago.
I needed to trim the roots a little as they were looking a big rough, i dont think it had been looked after very well for a long while.
I repotted and all seemed fine for a week or or so with new shoots growing and i was very pleased with my 'skills'.
Over the past 4 days i have noticed the leaves turning brown and crispy and the shoots looking lifeless.
The soil mixture seems dampish and i can't tell if i have over watered or underwatered!
I have had the plant in the Sun over the past week or so but have now moved to the shade.
Any advice on whether to water or not and any other advice please?

Sounds over-watered. The soil just needs to remain damp, not wet. Newly cut roots don't like it soggy, and strong sun should be avoided for a week or two after a strong root prune. Let the soil dry out some in-between waterings. Brush back some of the soil with your fingers. If it's still damp underneath to top layer, avoid watering it more.
Out of curiosity, what kind of soil did you use? Regular garden-type potting mix or a coarse bonsai mix? Are there drainage holes in the pot? Add some pictures if you have the chance.

Thanks for the reply.
I used a coarse bonsai mix for the soil bought from a local (ish) bonsai specialist near Exeter.
There are drainage holes in the pot, although the pot is quite large as the plant was pretty big. The pot it was in before was even larger.
I will keep it out the sun for a while and keep checking the soil dampness.
I will also post up some pics later.

I've been told from almost everyone that Hawthorne s hate being repoted and they take some time to recover, I recently collected one from the wild , it started budding out in the first week but now it's slowing down , I'm not sure if it's going to make it but I hope so . I think yours is just going through the stress of repotting and it will recover but I've not seen the plant so I can't tell. However following the advice of brkirkland22 is the best thing to do for now
