Tree ID Help was created by Bacchanalian

I was recently given a small indoor tree from home depot simply labeled as "名媛直播." I've never done any bonsai or any horticulture for that matter, but I'd like to try my hand at this tree. I've attempted to more specifically identify the tree, but the leaves don't appear to match any other common species I've seen. Any ideas on what it is and what I should do to start taking care of it?

That's a juniper. It's a young plant that cannot be considered a bonsai yet. This is NOT an indoor tree, it needs to be outdoors.
I think I see some scale-type foliage, but most of the foliage is the juvenile, needle type.

Thanks, would it be ok to remove the bed of moss in the pot, or do you think it's important?

I actually recommend removing it.

Ah good, I don't like the way it looks anyways. Is now a good time to start thinking about wiring for shape, or is it likely to be damaged due to its infancy?

I recommend to leave it alone. First you need to learn how to take for it, to keep it alive, and to let it grow.

Auk nailed it. Definitely a juniper and definitely remove the moss. spagnum moss is great at holding water and junipers dont like a lot of water. Its a slow grower, so leave it grow in full sun outdoors for a couple of growing seasons.
