I got this little boxwood from the nursery last year, close to the end of the growing season. I did not re-pot because it was too late, all I did was to improve drainage of the big pot were the little guy was, and pruned the top of the tree to encourage inner growth, closer to the trunk. Which boxwoods do very well. This year I worked the root ball, which is always a mess from the nursery. Huge thick roots, circling around the tree... terrible soil; balls of clay everywhere. Got rid of that nasty, wet soil (as much as I could), and cut all those enormous roots, etc etc... re-potted on the big pot you see on the picture. Re-potting went well, the tree is doing fine.

I have two options with this guy.
1) Plant on the ground, or big pot. Let it fatten up.
2) Shohin

I want to go with option 2, because I think it will be good practice for me, and it could look quite nice. My main question is. What should I do? where should I cut it? how tall do you think it should be? should I do anything else this year or just let it be?. Since I re-potted I think I should just do some thinning, keep the inner growth happening and worry about serious pruning next year. What do you guys think? thank you. I would post pictures after thinning so you can get a better picture of the primary branches, what to leave/what to cut.

Pretty sure you already know what you're doing, but yeah, I'd say Shohin
