Hello all, please help me.
I have this young Ficus Retusa (14 years old), and it's doing very well (I know, needs pruning, it's autumn here in Brazil).
But...
There are these many fern like small plants hanging from its trunk and branches. They make the bonsai look older (good!) but are they safe or some kind of parasite? Will they take over nutrients from the bonsai? Should I scrap them off, or should I leave them ?
Any help very welcome!

Looks like moss to.me. they can affect the bark. However in ficus the bark is less well expressed. I would leave it, unless you personally would want to remove it.
If this is at thw end of summer without trimming, you did not get a lot of growth. Are you member at a club?

Leatherback, thanks, looks like moss to me also, and I like it (for the moment).
I did some trimming last month, the Ficus was overcrowded with leaves; will repot in the spring.
Cheers, Clicio

I would cut off all the leaves, then new spouts will come on the branches. I got a few of this trees.
The moss should be fine, I live in Indonesia, same happens here.

Thanks! Indo Andreas, you mean defoliate now, in the autumn? Or do I wait for the spring?
