Acer Palmatum First Time was created by geri

Hello Guys,

Yesterday I've repoted for the first time my acer palmatum , form nursery pot to bonsai pot. I'm attaching some photos, I've added some musk, but I read that is no need for that. So I took it off. Please any advice would be helpful. It's my first experience with bonsai. Does the plant to stay on a shaded area? What to do next?

Thank to all

After a repot (drastic change for the plant) you should put her in a mid- sun for a month or two, for recovery and next you can put in full sun but carefull to don?t burn the leaves, hope i could help

I don't understand why did you put it in a pot in the first place?

Presuming that op would like to train a bonsai out of that acer ( as we are on a bonsai forum) , it is too early to put it in a pot.
Its just a young sapling, more likely a cutting and it needs to grow thick first in a big container or growing box at least, but the best would be to leave it in the ground for long years.

It's fine to grow it in a pot you need to transition it to a slightly larger pot next year. Don't worry about getting ready for a bonsai pot yet. It needs a trunk right now. To thicken a trunk you need growth. To get growth you need roots. To get roots you need space and foliage.
I have one that started out your size 2 years ago. It is now about an inch thick at the base. I moved it from a 1 gallon pot to a 3 gallon pot to get it thick. This is one I am training to be shohin bonsai.

Thanks for the brilliant confirmation that we are on a bonsai forum, Master Madartej

All my trees are in pots, have no trouble growing them thick on their trunks, however we got growing season all year around in the tropics.
I have to repot 1-2 year bases, older trees 3-4 years. I however agree that trees in the ground grow larger and it is all a matter what one aims for.
