Am I doing something wrong?

I got a Chinese Elm bonsai nearly a month ago. I'm very determined to keep it alive as it's my first, so I've done tonnes of reading and bought the tools and recently got fertiliser. I'm currently still at university, and my room is North facing, which I know is a problem. The corridor is South facing and whenever it is sunny I place my bonsai on the window to get some sunlight. I'm not sure if it's getting enough sunlight, although here in the UK its just cloudy all the time..so this is my first query. my room temp is a comfortable temp, not too warm or cold, however, I have other plants which need a warmer setting and I know my bonsai needs cooler room, it's placed in a S/W facing window alcove where i think it's slightly cooler than being on my desk.
Secondly, I water it probably 1/2 times a week by checking its weight and soil dampness first, I submerse it in my sink for a few mins (what my care pack said to do). However, recently I've noticed an increase in tiny flies being attracted to it which I don't want, or I'm not sure if I'm worrying too much and this is normal? and I've noticed a slight white mold in one corner and at the bottom of one root underneath (pics attached if you can see it). I prune back when there are 4-5 leaves and I think I've got the hang of that so far, I hope!
Am I looking after it okay doing what I'm doing so far? I finish uni in 2 months and then it will get more sunlight if it should be getting more?
Also with regards to fertiliser, I bought Chrysal which I mix with 1lt of water, do I add that when I water it in the sink? or??? it says once a week but I'm confused as to how much I add from the 1lt mixture I make.
Any help would be great, just want to know I'm looking after it alright, let me know what you guys think!

Hi,
I am not a fan of putting.pots in water. I fijd they stay way too wet. I prefer to water with a watering can.
In bonsai yiu trim witha purpose, not just to remove a branch. It is better for plants to be allowed to grow a bit every once in a while and let it build up energy.
Chinese elm are forgiving for poorer conditions.

I'm thinking the same now, going to not water it for a few days and see how it is. The care pack said it's the best way to water it, but I've read on some sites it's not, so I wasn't sure.
thank you!

Hi,
I have quite the same questions as you do, so I thought there is no reason to open a new topic and if that is ok, I will post here.
I have recently (two weeks ago) acquired a Chinese Elm and I am already experiencing few issues.
The leaves are getting yellow and they are falling off. Moreover I could see some little black spots on the yellow leaves. I have read quite a lot of posts on this topic and I have seen that this can be caused by various factors (excessive watering, fungus, etc), so I am hoping that someone could help me identify the real issue if I post some pictures.
I am living in London and my tree is kept indoors by the windows, facing South. I know it is best to keep the tree outdoors, however, I am living in an apartment and that is a bit impossible for me.
I am only watering it when the soil seems to be dry (I am checking this daily) and I water until it comes off the draining holes. Sometimes I use water spray to mist it and to provide a bit of humidity. Few days ago I have used a bit of fertiliser (in indicated quantities - 5ml for 1L water), which has the NPK 1.9; 0.7; 3.9. The tree does not seem to be ill as it has new leaves growing and overall I think it is in pretty good shape.
Few of my branches have leaves only on the top, while the rest is empty.
I have also noticed some "movement" on the soil, particularly when I am watering the tree. I think these are little spiders/bugs (Should I be worried about this?)
Can you please give me your thoughts about the state of this tree?
I am attaching some pictures, hopefully I will get some advice!
