Hi, I have had this 名媛直播s for 8 months. Over the last two months the leaves and branches highest up have started dying off, one branch at a time. I leave the soil until it bone dry and then leave it in standing (filtered) water for a few hours until the solid is wet again. My d=fault or is there something else......See photo. Any advice happily taken, it was a father's day present!

Don't let it go bone dry. Don't leave it in standing water for a few hours.
Read the care guidelines for your tree, link at the top of the page.

Welcome to the forum.
Looking at the pictures your tree may be dying already, I hope its not that bad as it looks. You water it totally wrong. Wait for soil to get dryish but not like nevada desert. You put heavy amount of stress on your tree. I personally water by pouring over the soil till it starts drop from wholes on bottom of pot. You may mist the soil before that so soil wets and sticks and does not escape from pot while pouring.
Good to read this here too -
Good luck.

You will find it is easier to water plant is organic substrate like you have, by giving lukewarm water instead of cold water. (It is better for the plant too). Warm water has a lower surface tension, and as such more readily is absorbed by soil gone too dry.
